Logjam Audit of Uncatalogued Collections in the North West The archives of the North West reflect the region's rich and diverse cultural heritage of the past Millennium. However, if they are to be fully accessible to the growing number of archive users in the North West, then it will be necessary to catalogue collections as yet uncatalogued and improve the physical availability of the material. Described in the NWRAC Archive Strategy as "absolutely fundamental to making archives accessible to the people of the North West", the Logjam project aims to address this issue by laying the foundations for future cataloguing initiatives. Taking the form of a detailed audit, the project has identified, quantified and prioritised uncatalogued collections in 30 of the North West's principal archive-holding organisations, including Local Authority Record Offices and specialist repositories and covering a variety of different media. The results of the audit have provided individual offices with an indication of the timescale and resources required for cataloguing these collections, as well as providing a more general regional overview. The information has been captured on a database and the results then incorporated into a regional report, which will also includes recommendations for future action to be taken in the North West, including priorities for collaborative cataloguing projects within the region.
